DHEE Hospitals houses a state of art laboratory complete with molecular testing and research. Our laboratory offers a wide range of tests comprising of Clinical Biochemistry, Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Cytology, Microbiology and Infectious disease serology, Histopathology and Molecular Biology.
What types of tests are done in the Laboratory?
The laboratory department is one of the major support departments for any hospital especially a multispecialty tertiary level hospital like DHEE. Various samples drawn from the patients are tested here with precision and efficiency using advanced technology, contemporary and standardized automated equipment. Samples tested range from blood, urine, stool, pus from various sites, sputum, Cerebrospinal fluid, Ascitic and pleural fluid. Tissue and organs are also examined by histopathology and microbiology departments. The Clinical biochemistry section performs various tests and assays to find the levels of glucose, HbA1C, creatinine, electrolytes like Sodium/salt calcium etc and hormones like Thyroid hormone and Cortisol levels in the blood. Further the Pathology section examines the blood counts in detail including various blood components and looks for evidence of abnormal cells or infection through examination of Peripheral smear by senior Pathologist. The Microbiology department helps in finding out abnormal bacteria, viruses and other pathogenic microbes if present in the body through various culture and microscopic tests. Clinical Cytology specifically studies the abnormal cells and Histopathology section examines various tissues the organization and structure to find out about their microscopic structure. This helps in determining if they are inflamed, normal or even cancerous.
New age diagnostic tests like Molecular Genetics are a rapid way of detecting for the DNA/genetic material of the microbes and helps in rapid and accurate diagnosis. They also help us decide if certain group of antibiotics will work or not for these microbes based on the genes they have detected.
